Where Fear and Faith Collide

29 July 2009 One Comment

Is it possible to live a life free of fear and full of faith in the world we live in today?  Can you walk as Abraham did for 24 years as he waited on the Lord in full faith for God to fulfill His promise?  The Bible says that Abraham did not waiver in his faith, but instead, he trusted God step by step.

In faith, Abraham packed up his family and left all that was comfortable in obedience to God.  Abraham was 75 years old when he made this move.  Can you imagine doing that today?   At the age of 75, just packing everything you have and moving to some undisclosed location?  At least you could call or email your loved ones, but not Abraham.  He literally had to wipe the dust from his feet as he departed his homeland.

Then, as if this is not crazy enough, God tells Abraham that his offspring will be greater than the stars in the sky.  From his own, decrepit body will come an heir to all of God’s promises.  And in the impossibility of it all, in this hopeless situation, the Bible goes on to say in Gen. 15:6 “Abraham believed the Lord, and He credited to him as righteousness.”

Do you believe God today?  Do you believe He will never leave you nor forsake you, or do you trust your circumstances to be truth?  Is it possible today, in a world walking rebelliously against God’s Word, to overcome the fear that so easily envelopes us and instead to walk in the faith that frees us?  In this time where the laws of God are spit upon, His Word is mocked and our freedoms are quickly disappearing, can you trust God as David did while he was being hunted down by his arch enemy King Saul?  Can you trust God as the market is dropping, jobs are being lost, kids are walking in rebellion, aging parents are out of money and need your help, houses are being foreclosed on, retirement funds are disappearing and health care costs are rising?  These are the moments when true identities are revealed.  When who you really are will shine through. This is when fear will push you to depend on man or the government for help or like the rising of the sun, your faith will shine forth and will give you the strength to stand firm and believe God for the impossible.

What will you choose to believe today?  Your destiny is waiting.
